Here we are, at last: the final day of the 2024 U.S. election campaign, with the world holding its breath.

While we may have a clearer picture of the outcome by late tonight, the question on many voters' minds may soon shift to: “Will it end peacefully?” Back in November 2020, it took a full week of vote counting to confirm Joe Biden’s victory over Donald Trump, though for many frustrated Trump voters, the contest didn’t end even then.

In its final poll of this campaign, Léger measured whether Americans trust that the losing candidate will concede peacefully. The results reveal a sharp partisan divide, and a clear majority of voters doubt that Trump would concede if he loses once more.
