The End of the Legault Era, by the Numbers
After record-high approval during the pandemic, Quebec’s premier leaves office with the lowest ratings among his provincial peers.
The latest quarterly survey of provincial premiers by the Angus Reid Institute—the last one to include François Legault’s name—once again places the Quebec premier at the bottom of the rankings, with an approval rating of just 26%, compared to 67% disapproval among Quebecers.
No other provincial premier in the country posts such a wide negative gap, illustrating the extent of the erosion in Legault’s popularity. At the height of the pandemic, he was setting records for public approval.
Now, after eight years in power and just weeks before his announced departure, Legault appears set to leave the political scene on a markedly sour note—at the very bottom of the country’s premier rankings.
