Léger: Canadians Worried About Abortion Rights
Even with strong support for abortion rights in all regions and age groups in Canada, many are worried that events south of the border could impact Canadians, according to a new Léger poll.
Polls have shown for years that the right to abortion is a settled issue in the minds of Canadians. However, since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the Roe v. Wade decision (which guaranteed abortion rights in all 50 U.S. states) in June 2022, voters seem more attuned to the debates surrounding attacks on abortion rights on this side of the border.
A recent Léger poll reveals that a majority of Canadians are concerned about the effects of the end of constitutional protection for this right in the U.S. Some 60% of respondents are concerned about access to abortion services in Canada, and half (49%) believe that the situation in the U.S. could have an impact on abortion rights in Canada.
