Government Regulation to Make Social Media Platforms Safer? Most Canadians Are on Board

At the end of February, the federal government tabled Bill C-63, better known as the Online Harms Act. With it, social media has been abuzz with the potential ramifications of the bill should it pass, and how it may impact Canadians and their online experience.

New polling from Leger finds that a majority of Canadians would welcome some regulation to make platforms safer and act to against those that leave harmful/hateful content online, although many also worry that it could infringe on their freedom of expression. Let’s explore Léger’s findings.
