Carney Outperforms Freeland in Hypothetical Ballot Question
But Poilievre's Conservatives still outperform both—for now.
The Angus Reid Institute released part of its latest federal poll on Monday, testing the names of the main Liberal Party of Canada (LPC) leadership contenders in a hypothetical ballot question. The results suggest that a Liberal Party led by Mark Carney would significantly outperform one led by former finance minister Chrystia Freeland.
However, in either scenario, Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives remain comfortably in majority territory.
Naturally, we must always approach hypothetical polling with caution, as voters often react differently to theoretical matchups than they do when faced with actual choices. Nevertheless, public perception of a leadership race can have a tremendous impact on its narrative—and, by extension, its outcome.
Additionally, a much-anticipated new federal poll from Léger also provides fresh numbers on the LPC leadership race, and the balance appears to tilt heavily in favour of the former Bank of Canada governor.
Let us explore the numbers.
