Can Anyone Save the NDP?
New poll reveals most NDP voters don’t recognize their leadership hopefuls.
With the federal New Democratic Party in the process of finalizing its leadership race rules, the party is likely hoping the contest will spark a much-needed revival.
After polling neck and neck with the Trudeau Liberals for most of last fall, the NDP had a disastrous April election, winning only seven seats nationwide—the party’s worst tally in its modern history—and earning a meaer 6.3% of the popular vote (just below the Bloc Québécois).
The party is effectively in full crisis mode. Mark Carney’s Liberals continue to poll at or above their 2025 election result of 44%, leaving the NDP squeezed out as many of its former voters shift to either the Liberals or the Conservatives.
Let’s look at the latest numbers for the New Democrats, as well as fresh data on the party’s upcoming leadership race to replace Jagmeet Singh.
