Angus Reid Poll Adds to Poilievre’s Personal-Approval Troubles
The Conservative leader shows no improvement in personal ratings since late summer, with warning signs emerging among younger voters.
Add the Angus Reid Institute to the growing list of recent polls pointing to trouble ahead for Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre.
Unlike other firms such as Abacus, Nanos, and Liaison — all of which have measured a deterioration in Poilievre’s personal numbers in recent weeks — Angus Reid Institute (ARI) finds those numbers largely unchanged. But that stability comes with an important caveat: ARI’s readings were already among the worst for Poilievre of any major pollster, and they show no improvement whatsoever since late summer.
Asked whether they hold an overall favourable or unfavourable view of Pierre Poilievre — Opposition leader and leader of the Conservative Party of Canada — 58% of respondents expressed an unfavourable opinion, compared with 36% who said favourable. That translates into a net favourability rating of −22.
Here are ARI’s readings on Poilievre since early September:
The regional breakdown in the newest ARI release further shows the challenge ahead for the Conservative leader. Poilievre’s numbers are underwhelming even in provinces where he would normally be expected to perform far better — most notably Alberta.
