338 Sunday Update: The House is Back and So Are We
New Parliament, new polls, and no shortage of political intrigue as pollsters track the first post-election trends.
Happy Sunday to all 338Canada readers,
On Monday, a new Speaker to the House of Commons will be chosen. Then, on Tuesday, King Charles III will deliver the government’s Throne Speech. And just like that, the spring session of the House of Commons will begin — expected to be short, but busy. This will mark the first time MPs return to the House since late 2024.
The official count from the 2025 federal election is nearly complete. All judicial recounts are done, and the results from every riding have been validated. Barring any last-minute changes, the Liberals have won 169 seats with just under 8.6 million votes, while the Conservatives take 144 seats with 8.1 million votes.
All results are now live on the 338Canada riding pages.
After a few quiet post-election weeks, polling on issues, leader impressions, and party support is ramping up again. This morning, Abacus Data released the first national poll since Canadians elected this new Parliament. We also look at a new Léger survey measuring Canadians’ confidence in various levels of government — with some intriguing results.
Let’s dive in. Welcome back to the 338 Sunday Update.
