Election speculation is one of Ottawa’s national sports — exponentially more so during a minority Parliament.

After last April’s federal election produced a 169-seat Liberal government — three seats short of a majority — the countdown to the next campaign had already begun. Nevertheless, few observers (yours truly included) expected we would face this much uncertainty this soon.

With this in mind, what do the latest numbers tell us about the state of the federal race?
