338 Sunday Update: Curtains on 2025

One of the most unpredictable political years ends in a statistical tie at the federal level — and an uncertain stage for 2026.

‘Twas the Sunday before Christmas,
In Ottawa, all was quiet after a tumultuous year,
In which the Liberals had much to cheer,
As they held on to power through another solstice.

With help from the Mad King south of the border,
The “Banker with a Conscience” saved the Liberals from oblivion,
The election even put Pierre Poilievre’s career into question,
As a man named Fanjoy took Carleton from the leader.

Months went by and polls showed a close score,
Before Christmas, the Liberals inched closer to their majority,
“Poilievre’s caucus resembles a fraternity!”,
Said a duo of Conservatives as they crossed the floor.

And so, as the year closed with forecasts unsure,
The Liberals swore their government was secure,
But voters, unconvinced, needed a well-deserved break,
After a year of tariffs, drama, and so many headaches.

Happy Winter Solstice Sunday, dear 338Canada readers,

What a year 2025 turned out to be. This newsletter grew well beyond my expectations, and I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to the readers and supporters of 338Canada.
