Happy Sunday morning, dear 338Canada readers,
We still have a packed June ahead before what we expect will be a quieter July. Lots of numbers to deconstruct today, so let’s dive right in.
Abacus Data: Carney’s honeymoon continues
Abacus Data published its latest federal release this morning. While the horserace shows little movement since the April election, there are interesting findings on government satisfaction and leader impressions.
Favourability for the new Prime Minister continues to climb. In Abacus’ previous release in May, Mark Carney posted a net +20 score (49% positive vs. 29% negative). This month, those numbers have improved slightly to 51% positive and 27% negative—a strong net rating of +24.
Such personal popularity helps lift the government’s overall approval: Abacus finds 53% of Canadians approve of the federal government, compared to just 23% who disapprove—a remarkable net score of +30.
